ELLE is a mix of fashion, beauty, lifestyle, fitness,wellness and personality-oriented features. So it's got a bit of everything. It targets young women aged 16-30.
2. The Title & Cover
Basically, ELLE means She in French and there is a famous slogan that comes with it: "Si elle lit, elle lit ELLE" (If she reads, she reads ELLE). That is very beautifully said and it is elegant. It is specifically aimed at young women.
The title is usually situated behind the model that appears on the cover.That's why The 2 "LL"s are hidden. But that is not a big problem considering the fact that everyone knows ELLE Magazine. If it is in front of the model, it doesn't cover the face of her.
The title is quite simple. It has a long and elegant font at the top of the magazine with large spacing between each letter. The typeface varies from black and white font colours and the subtitles give short insights into what features inside the magazine. The font used is Onyx and it relates to the context of the magazine and the target audience.The website of Elle is printed under the first 'E' and the month and year is written with the price underneath discretely so the audience base their decision to purchase on the magazine's context.
Usually, the cover features a celebrity.
The presentation of the cover is based on the colour(s) of the background and the outfit of the model who appears on the cover. The image is usually positioned in the center.The layout of the contents page is simplistic and is easy for the reader to understand.
3. The structure
The magazine begins addressing the reader with an Editor's letter. The focus points of it is beauty and fashion but it also contains articles on Travel/Features/Edits/Covers etc. There are loads of adverts in the magazine as well advertising haute couture brands or more price-affordable ones.
